Marine Corps 233rd Birthday

by "a425couple" <a425couple@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 11, 2008 at 01:25 PM

We did something different this year!

We went to a "233rd USMC Birthday Dinner"

For whatever reason, I'll dump a bit of background.
Sometimes we are what we are.
And do what we do.
Whether it's good, bad, or indiferent
(or often, just a choice, that has all above intertwined!)
I (and 'we') can be very involved, active, loyal to
and with a group or individuals.
But, I also realize for me, generally when a period
is over, I pretty much just totally move on.

Hence, High School, oh, I go to some of the decade
reunions, but never "hang" with any of them.
College, same thing pretty much. Had a fine roommate
for over 3 years, Think I've phoned once and written
once in last 35+ years.
Wrestling Team reunions - pretty much same, probably
would have kept up with that interest, but when the
university gave up on that s****t, - kinda became moot.
USMC Active Duty friends - when out, lost contact.
USMC Active Reserve friends - same.
Spent a good career with an 'organization', intended after
retiring, to visit once a month or so. Did for a while,
now maybe go to a 'gathering' once a year or so.
(skip other & mixed)

Anyway, been trying to clear out some of the
clutter lately, came upon all my uniforms.
The Dress Blues and Dress Whites reminded me
of the Mess Nights.
Decided "I'd kinda like to do that again!"

Started computer search on Sunday 9 Nov. -
- mostly thinking about try for something next year.
Came up with some bare information for a local
event for 10 Nov. & couple phone numbers.
Called just to learn more (& file away).
Wow!

Perfect little easy and nice event.
Put on by the local "MarineCorpsLeague"
$10.00 for dinner, casual dress very acceptable!

We had a very nice night,
I'll tell more if anyone interested,
(i.e. the Iwo Jima vets that sat next to us!)
otherwise I'll shut up and quit wasting electrons!!
